What the Ministry of Heaven Believes and Teaches
The Ministry of Heaven is grounded in the core truths of the Christian faith. These beliefs shape every teaching, video, and other resource offered through this ministry.
What This Ministry Believes
The Bible is the inspired, infallible, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God in the original manuscripts. It is God's written revelation of Himself and of His will to and for humanity, and it is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice.
God is one God, eternally existing in three Persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — the same in substance, equal in power and glory.
Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross in the place of sinners, was buried, and rose bodily from the dead on the third day.
Humanity fell in Adam. Every person is a sinner by nature and by choice, guilty before a holy God, and unable to save himself.
Salvation is by the grace of God alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone — not by works, not by ceremonies, and not by membership in any church. It brings the forgiveness of sins, peace with God, and everlasting life.
The Holy Spirit convicts of sin, gives new birth, indwells and seals every believer, and works in them a real and growing holiness.
The Church is the whole company of the redeemed in every age and every place, gathered locally in congregations of believers.
Jesus Christ will return bodily and visibly. There will be a resurrection of the dead, a final judgment, everlasting punishment for those who are lost, and everlasting life with God for those who are His.
The Historic Creeds
The Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed are short summaries of these same truths, and the Ministry of Heaven embraces both. In the Nicene Creed the word catholic means universal — the whole body of Christ in every Age and place — and does not refer to the Roman Catholic church.
Agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession
With the notable exceptions listed below, the Ministry of Heaven is in agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession. Each exception is an objection to legalism, which is the opposite extreme from antinomianism. Scripture condemns both extremes. The chapters named below, as they are commonly applied in churches holding to the 1689 and to the similar Westminster Confession of Faith, tend toward legalism and formalism.
Notable Exceptions to the 1689 London Baptist Confession
Chapter 22, Paragraph 1 - The Regulative Principle of Worship - replaced with 1 Corinthians 14:40, Colossians 2:20-23.
Chapter 22, Paragraphs 7 and 8 - “The Christian Sabbath” & “How to Obey the Sabbath” - replaced with Colossians 2:16 and Hebrews 10:24-25.
Chapter 23, Paragraph 5 - “Legitimate and Illegitimate Vows” - replaced with Matthew 5:34 and James 5:12.
Church Membership, Vows and the Lord’s Table
Most vows should be avoided. Marriage is one of the rare occasions where a vow is fitting. The Ministry of Heaven therefore rejects binding church “membership” vows, and rejects the practice of closing the Lord's Table to believers who will not make them. A vow of that kind binds the conscience where Scripture leaves it free. It gives occasion to sin, and it often ends either in sin or in regret for the vow made. Where such vows are enforced they become instruments of control, as the history of the Roman Catholic “church” and of other churches shows, to the spiritual and financial harm of those bound by them.
Denominations and Churches
The Ministry of Heaven does not endorse any particular Christian denomination or church. No perfect church exists on planet Earth. It is in the best interests of Christians, and their responsibility, to seek out and attend a faithful church that is biblical in its beliefs and practices.
